Public Policy

Government Programme

This provides a framework for regular interactive dialogue and relationship building between ministers, regulators and industry in both developed and developing countries.

Regulatory affairs

As the mobile industry continues to grow, policy development challenges arise, both nationally and internationally. Through programmes of engagement with governments, and direct market interventions, we help to shape the global regulatory agenda.

Spectrum

We work closely with governments and regulators on spectrum issues and advocate allocation of new spectrum bands to enable the mobile industry to continue to bring new and innovative services to market.

Mobile and health

The GSMA opinion, based on expert scientific reviews, is that there are no established health risks from exposures to radio frequency signals from wireless communications. However, we recognise that there is public concern about possible health risks from the use of mobile phones and the siting of antennas. In partnership with various national authorities and other industry stakeholders, we conduct a comprehensive programme of research into the possibility of adverse health effects from the use of mobile phones.

Protecting consumers

Mobile operators recognise that they have an ongoing responsibility to ensure that their customers are protected from threats such as mobile Spam, handset theft and exposure to illegal content on the Internet. We are very active in supporting operators’ goals of improving transparency, openness and accountability.
