Mobile Money
Mobile Money Transfer
The MMT programme leverages the benefits of GSM technology to improve access to money transfers for a wider section of the global community.
With many traditional remittance services, access to facilities to receive money is often limited, particularly for the poorest people in more rural areas, where the banking sector is under-represented and the economy is largely cash-based. Those who would benefit most are therefore the least likely to be able to receive remittances from migrant workers. They are locked out of the market due to their social, economic and geographical position.
With mobile phones outnumbering ATMs by two-thousand to one, GSMA's Mobile Money Transfer (MMT) initiative provides the platform for mobile communications to become the key enabler in sending remittances around the world.
Pay-Buy-Mobile
The Pay-Buy-Mobile (PBM) initiative will enable you to pass a phone close to a point-of-sale 'reader' when you are buying goods or services.
With PBM, it's just like having your credit or debit card in your mobile phone. So, instead of handing over a card, you will simply use your mobile phone to pay for the goods and services that you have bought.
The service will typically be available in hundreds of shops, supermarkets, restaurants or railway stations - all around the world. When you've paid, the transaction will appear on your next credit or debit card statement.
